At the request of an employee breastfeeding her child, the employer must grant her breastfeeding time during the normal working day.
Such breastfeeding time comprises:
- two periods of 45 minutes each, the 1st period at the start of her daily work schedule and the second at the end of her normal daily work schedule.
If the working day is interrupted by only one break of one hour or if it is impossible for the woman to breastfeed her child close to her place of work, the two periods may be combined to form:
- a single breastfeeding period of at least 90 minutes.
It is to be noted that a full-time employee (working 8 hours from Monday to Friday) who, on a working day, takes recreational annual leave of a half-day, will, for that working day, enjoy only 45 minutes breastfeeding time.
Nota Bene
Breastfeeding time is counted as working time and confers the right to normal wages.
