Employment of pupils and students during school holidays

A pupil or student is:

  • an employee who is enrolled with a Luxembourg or foreign educational establishment and regularly attends a full-time course of study,
  • any person whose school enrolment ended less than four months ago,
  • aged between 15 and 27 (deadline being the date of their 27th birthday)

A distinction must be made between a student contract, which is not an employment contract and which governs the occupation of pupils and students during their school holidays, if this occupation is performed in exchange for a salary for the benefit of employers in the private or public sector, and traineeships which serve a primarily educational purpose.

Pay relating to the service provided within a student contract framework cannot be less than 80% of the  minimum social wage, staggered if need be according to the age of the student.
