Definitions
Apprenticeship is defined as the acquisition of new skills.
The aim of an apprenticeship is to enable an employer recognised as skilled to teach the practice of a profession to an apprentice.
The apprentice may be:
- either a teenager: in that case, the term used is “initial apprenticeship”;
- or an adult: then the term used is “adult apprenticeship”.
An apprenticeship makes it possible to reconcile:
- theoretical and general training obtained in a vocational school;
- with practical training within a commercial, industrial, agricultural or craft undertaking, under the direction of a supervisor.
