D15a45 - Which cleanliness and hygiene criteria apply to dwellings and rooms rented out or made available for residential purposes by the employer to workers away from their usual place of work?

No bedroom in a dwelling and no room may be occupied by more than two persons of full age.

Dwellings, rooms and collective facilities must be protected against damp, cold, heat and draughts.

No dwelling, room or collective facility may be subject to:

  1. contamination of the air or dust containing chemical contaminants or physical factors; or
  2. a high concentration of microorganisms caused by a leak or infiltration of water, a thermal bridge, rising damp or a mechanical system of ventilation or air treatment;

which might cause harm to the occupants’ health.

Rooms such as bedrooms and living rooms must be fitted with a window providing direct views to the outside. Kitchens must be equipped with such a window if the latter constitutes the second escape exit for occupants; otherwise a mechanical ventilation system is sufficient.

Bathrooms, toilets, laundries and areas intended for the deposit of household waste located inside the building are to be equipped with a natural or mechanical ventilation device. In the case of mechanical ventilation, the device must be regularly maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Household waste must be placed either in a separate ventilated area inside any building containing one or more dwellings or rooms, or else outside the building.

Occupants must have the possibility of drying laundry outside their rooms.
